Focus Question: Is Melbourne more liveable now than in the past?

Here are some resources to help you answer this:

Define LIVEABILITY...
Liveability is the sum of the aspects that add up to the quality of life of a place, including its economy, facilities and services, environmental sustainability, health and wellbeing, equity, education and learning and government.
This definition is inspired by Partners for Liveability Communities Australia,

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO EACH WEEK?

To be posted on your blog:

  1. A reflective journal post about the previous week's activities.

  2. An answer to the focus question (if required). You will be assessed using this assessment rubric:

Galileo Focus Question Rubric T3 2012.pdf
Galileo Focus Question Rubric T3 2012.pdf
Galileo Focus Question Rubric T3 2012.pdf

  1. One comment on another student's reflective journal. See the allocation list to find out whose blog you should comment on each week (on the Blog List page).

  2. Any other tasks listed in the table below.

Reflective Journal

  • Students will write a reflection each week on their Global2 blog. The reflection should include information about the activities you have participated in, discussion of how your team is progressing, reflections from Community Service and a discussion of your learning. Using the PMIQ framework will help you structure your reflections.

  • Students will also need to comment on at least one other student's reflective journal each week. Partner allocations are listed in a document on the Blog List page.

Click here to see an example of what your blog should look like.

Focus Questions

Students will answer an assigned Focus Question on their blog in specified weeks. Homegroup teachers will assess all homework using the assessment rubric (at the top of this page).
Assessment of Homework
  • Each week's reflective journal post will receive a comment from you homegroup teacher. You should respond to any comments made about your homework.
  • Focus Questions will be graded by your homegroup teacher using the Assessment Rubric. You should download and read the Assessment Rubric (at the top of this page). Your grades will be posted as comments below your Focus Question answer.
  • You should respond to any comments made on your journal by teachers or other students.
  • Students who fall behind with their homework will be required to attend a weekly homework "catch up" session during Friday lunchtimes. If a student is consistently behind, the homegroup teacher will contact home to help support student to catch up.

NEED HELP?

Homework support available here. Ask your homegroup teacher if you have any problems or questions.

If you are having trouble planning your focus question - there are two planning documents here. They are a good place to start for those of you who have not had much experience with essay structure or have trouble organising your thoughts.
